On paper a comfortable win for the powerful NCL Premiers outfit but they were made to work hard in places against an RN side, who, despite missing several regular players due to operational commitments gave a good account of themselves. It was in fact the home side that took the early lead with barely 6 minutes on the clock. A deft kick ahead by former West Hull junior Lennox Green found Josh Coupland who patted the ball back inside to centre Steve Riley who took the ball round under the posts giving Green an easy shot at goal. The home side competed well for another 10 minutes or so and with Ref Race giving the visitors a team warning the RN were definitely on top. Coming close once again the RN missed another try with a dropped ball on the line. This gave the visitors the advantage in their own half and within the set of six were on the board with the first of two trys in the match for second row Jacob Moore. Converted by Ryan Wilson it was all square again. The Hull side began to dominate the game and for the rest of the half and despite heroic defence from the RN ran in another 4 trys without reply including a brace for Bobby Tyson Wilson both converted by Ryan Wilson. Jack Lazenby touched down for the visitors this time converted by former RN Players Scott Partis. As the clock ran down to Half time Partis showed his skills so often seen in RN colours with some deft footwork to beat the RN cover from 15 out and touch down under the posts making his own conversion straight forward enough, that was it for the half Ref Steve Race blowing for the break with the visitors comfortably ahead 30:6

The second half began with the weather closing in and heavy rain beginning to fall again however handling from both sides was very good throughout. Once again the home team scored first, typical hookers try for Fijian Marika Tuinabunawa burrowing under the defence from close range and right under the posts. Lennox Green slotted home the conversion and it was 12-30. Unfortunately for the home side Jacob Moore crossed for his second of the game almost from the restart crossing out wide , this time Partis missed the conversion. Another competitive passage of play was enjoyed by the crowd with neither side able to break the opposition defence. With 60 minutes on the clock the only major flashpoint of the game occurred, RN player John Clay was tackled and played the ball but following that an off the ball incident between Clay and Hull Man Jacob Moore resulted in Moore been given a red card for punching whilst Clay received a yellow for retaliation. It was the visitors who scored next to extend their lead Jamie Leigh going well on the wig touched down out wide but Partis was wide with the conversion. The final score of the game went again to the Hull no 5, Leigh who had just enough to beat the home defence to touchdown out wide, a strong swirling wind was not good for the conversion attempt with Partis being wide with the kick. That was the end of the scoring, Ref Race bringing an entertaining match to an end between two sides who were both missing players, final score 12:42

Man of the match Bobby Tyson Wilson with RN hooker Danny Heaton pushing him close.
