Army Veterans v RNRL Veterans

The second season of Vets Inter Services began with a stern test for the below strength RN side against the Army as the first match in the days schedule of games. The Army started very physically with some borderline tackling looking to overwhelm the RN side, this tactic worked reasonably well as could be seen by the number of visits to the field by the RN physio. Unsurprisingly the Army were in the lead soon after the kick off. Although at the break the Army were ahead by 22-0 the RN had showed some encouraging signs despite the battering they took throughout the first half, Mikey Graham being outstanding in defence. Although the Army were first to score after the break the RN side put in a great effort in the second half with a flurry of points in the middle ten minutes threatening to upset the Army dominance, Ben Cartwright bagging one as well as Gullashi and Mikey Graham. The final 10 minutes or so saw the Army go over twice more to leave the final score at 40-18 which perhaps flattered the Army. RN Coaches Chris Richards and Marcus Tobin should take a lot from this match great efforts al around the team with significant contributions from Richie Guy as usual and Matthew Murray playing in the second Row. Mikey Graham’s overall contribution to the match earned him Man Of the Match presented by Lt Col Frank Noble Army RL Chairman.

RN Vets:- John Clay, Steve Hillman, Mikey graham, Ben Cartwright, Gullashi, Danny Airey, Ritchie Guy, Lee Johnstone, ‘Jack’ Hawkins, Steve Melbourne, Matthew Murray, ‘Albert’ Hall, Dave Turner, Mark Lemmon, George Taylor, Lloyd Williams, Will Jefferson
