Following last year’s trip to Ince Rose Bridge for the 2024 fixture we are a lot closer to home this year. RNRL is very grateful to Havant RFC for hosting the contest at their Hooks Lane ground.
Luke Warrington has moved from Coaching to Event Organiser and this year’s coaching ‘dream teams’ are:
Easts ‘The Blues’
Matt Bayliss
Wata Robanakadavu
Steve Penberthy
Despite a new venue for this eagerly anticipated highlight of our calendar the format remains the same, the UK being split north to south to establish the Eastern Commands and Western Commands sides. Originally established as a pre-IS selection fixture the match has taken on a life of its own with the players loyal to their colours despite what 'drafty' says
This is the 21st Origin fixture with the Blues of the Eastern Commands holding a dominant lead in matches played over the Maroons of the Western Commands, the Easts with 13 wins to the Wests 7. The Maroons took last season’s clash and will look to take the trophy again this year. The Blues on the other hand will be equally keen to return to winning ways and maintain their dominance.
Your Origin 21 match details are:
As always at Origin the back story is the opportunity for all players to stake their claim for a place in the Inter Services sides for the September series.
Although a different code this fixture will be a great start to the Army v Navy weekend and we look forward to seeing you ‘Up The Hill ‘at Havant RFC to support your colour be it Blue or Maroon
