Besides winning a Test series against the Royal Australian Navy 3-0 November 2018 was when RNRL first met a brave young man called Dylan Dey

The Amelia-Mae Foundation is the charity dedicated to supporting those youngsters in their fight with Neuroblastoma. The Chair Of Trustees for the foundation, WO(1) John Murray, posted the following message highlighting the all too short relationship between Dylan and his family and RNRL especially Chris Reeves who did so much to get the lad over to Wakefield for the first test

“Not many of you will know who I am but on the first day of lockdown this photo came up on my memory from Nov 2018 and I thought I’d share the importance of it because I know Chris Reeves is too humble to!

I contacted Chris about getting involved with a charity I am Chair of Trustees for, the Amelia-Mae Foundation, a few years back which supports children with a rare form of cancer, Neuroblastoma.

I sent Chris to meet little Dylan from Manchester in 2018 and he invited him on this day in 2018 to be the mascot for the RNRL vs RANR. Chris and his team mates jumped behind Dylan and his family throughout his battle and even gave him regular calls and initiated him as a ‘brother’, Dylan used to refer to all the RNRL players as brothers on calls and it meant so much to his family.

Dylan sadly lost his battle with Neuroblastoma earlier this year but Chris was an esteemed guest of the charity and family at the funeral, so much so he was offered alone time with Dylan at the church, behind the curtain to pay his last respects.”

Probably the measure of support for our friend Dylan was the response to a raffle organised by Mason Tyler-Holland. In the midst of the first lockdown Mason ‘virtually’ and off his own back sourced the prize and pushed out the invite across the Association. Initially 100 tickets were made available but due to demand a further 120 tickets were added raising £1100 in 24 hours. For the record Brodie-Lee Butler won the prize (a signed Gloucester RU shirt) and promptly asked that it should be presented to Dylan!
