Following the mixed results in the first round the teams regrouped in Portsmouth to prepare for Round 2. Whilst nominally based at HMS Temeraire the teams have moved around the area to maximise their training sessions, including Whale Island, HMS Nelson, Havant RFC and the Solent for some open water swimming.
Our Ladies side the Wrenegades have travelled the furthest as they joined the London Broncos Womens side for a joint training session at Rossyln Park RFC in South London. This session is no one off as the Wrenegades have had a great relationship with the Broncos since 2009. In March of that year RNRL was delighted to welcome the Bronco’s head coach and former Royal Marine Brian McDermott to HMS Collingwood for a Sunday morning run out.
Despite all the hard work on and around the pitch the Squads have enjoyed some downtime including a traditional meal prepared and cooked by our Fijian Brothers. This is becoming a highlight of the off-field training camp and it was great to see the Wrenegades joining the mens teams for the first time at HMS Temeraire
With a couple more days of training to go before the trip to Humberside and the weather being so good the camp is in good heart ahead of team selection.
If you have forgotten its an early start for the Academy at 1100 followed by the Womens match at 1330 and finishing with the Jack Harrison VC trophy match kicking off at 1700
Admission is £5 for adults and £1 for juniors, a lot cheaper than what Coldplay will charge!
