Fixture Update – Wigan St Judes A v RNRL Academy

Keith Humpleby27 Apr 2023 - 11:31

The Academy Brothers are at RNRL HQ ahead of the trip up to Wigan for Saturdays game which will now kick off at 1300 and not 1430 as originally posted

Both sides are very much looking forward to Saturdays fixture at St Judes which will hopefully be the start of a great relationship between the two clubs, to emphasise this the following is from the St Judes website: -

“This Saturday our A Team face the Royal Navy Academy in what promises to be a fantastic game of rugby league.

We caught up with one of our A Team coach’s Matt Bowker who previously played for the Royal Navy in 2004. We asked his thoughts about the game on Saturday and what this mean for the club going forward;

“Having good links with the Navy we have worked hard to strengthen existing relationships, this game will hopefully be the first in many between our club and the Navy, I genuinely believe this will be the start of something extremely positive for both organisations. I’m hoping in the future we can involve our First Team, the women’s section and our over 35s Masters”

Ian Worthington, our Youth and Junior Chairman added;
“Hosting the Royal Navy Academy at St Judes is an absolute honour! The potential to take teams down to Portsmouth at HQ1, Burnaby road would be a massive privilege for the club if this became an option in the future. I’d like to thanks Matt on behalf of the club for his hard work and dedication in presenting this wonderful opportunity for the A Team lads! We are looking forward to forging great relationships going forward”

Let’s all get down to Parsons Meadow on Saturday to support our A Team and give the Royal Navy Rugby League Academy a warm welcome at St Judes ARLFC”

The early kick off gives players and supporters the chance to settle down and watch the England v France international which will be shown on Sky Sports as well as being streamed on YouTube. The England v France Womens fixture is also being shown on Sky kicking off ahead of the Mens game at 1400.
The weather looks to be cloudy but dry for the game with a very light breeze, it looks all set for a great afternoon, so please come and joins us at St Judes for the 1300 kick off

See you there
