Following Rear Admiral Paul Carroll’s letter announcing his intention to stand down as RNRL Chairman, I would like to take this opportunity to outline the extreme pride and excitement I feel, in being handed the opportunity to take over as Chairman of this outstanding Association.

Hailing from Ince, Wigan and an avid supporter of the Wigan Warriors, Rugby League is simply a part of my DNA. Joining the Royal Navy over 30 years ago when there was no formalised Rugby League, it has been truly amazing to witness the development of RNRL over the past 25 years. Having joined the Executive Committee around 12 months ago, I have been impressed by the bond that is clearly evident throughout and I look forward to resuming regular fixtures following 28 months of COVID restrictions.

Firstly, I would like to thank Admiral Paul for the outstanding work he has done throughout his tenure as Chairman; overseeing a 3-0 series win against the Australian’s, Inter-Services winners in 2017 and the remarkable development of the Ladies’ side to mention only a few of the successes. Secondly, I would like to thank the players and Executive Committee for their unwavering commitment, without which RNRL would simply cease to exist. Finally, I would like to thank the sponsors of RNRL. It is down to their continuous support that the Association has been able to compete at the level it does, and the reason we remain in a strong position to succeed in the future.

I can assure you all that I am fully committed to the development of the RNRL both on and off the field and look forward to working with you all. I am confident that together we will see on field success throughout all our squads, while growing the sport of Rugby League in the Naval Service. I cannot wait for the season to start.
