Here in his own words is Sean's background and reasons for taking on such an epic challenge
'Hi there wonderful people! I have been in the Royal Navy for 39 years having joined up as a 16 year old straight from school in 1987. I have been a passionate rugby league supporter all my life and know that life isn’t always good for those that leave the service and become veterans. That has led me to enter the gruelling Barcelona Ironman 2026 in October in order to raise money for the amazing InTouch Royal Navy Rugby League charity.
For those that don’t know what an Ironman is, it is a triathlon comprising of a 2.4 mile swim, a 112 mile bike ride, and finishes with a 26.2 mile marathon run!!
InTouch RNRL strengthens the Royal Navy Rugby League family by ensuring no member is left behind. It delivers psychological, practical, medical and emotional support through transition and beyond, while preserving lifelong connection, shared history and community identity. Through mentoring, guidance and meaningful engagement, we help veterans and their families live healthy, confident lives — resetting, reconnecting and reliving the spirit of Royal Navy Rugby League for generations to come.
