Head Coach Darren Bamford has his squad together this weekend, at Temeraire, for the first time since the successful Inter Services campaign and ahead of the Christmas break in preparation for Januarys game.

This will be our third meeting with the ‘Hoists’ both sides having won one game each. It is the first time we have hosted the game and will be on the turf at Burnaby road as opposed to our last meeting on the artificial surface at Chiswick RFC. The Hammersmith club come into this match on the back of winning the Southern Conference Grand Final, beating Wests Warriors 20-12 in the process for the second consecutive year.

Clues to the clubs background are the green and gold colours and the ‘hoist’ featured in their logo, The Wikipedia entry for the club explains all!

The Hammersmith Hills Hoists are an amateur rugby league club based in Hammersmith, London. Founded at the end of 2008 by local Australian expats to provide players of all nationalities, backgrounds and abilities the chance to play competitive rugby league in and around London, whilst also expanding their social networks in the process. The club plays in the Southern Conference League – part of the fourth tier of Rugby League nationally.
The last parts of the clubs name are an eponym that seems irrelevant at first glance to rugby – Hills Hoists is an Australian term for sturdy, rotary washing lines, particularly those with an advanced retraction mechanism – such is the nation's pride in these they are enrolled as of lasting heritage value in that country’s national library featuring as roving robots in the 2000 Summer Olympics with one featuring in the club's badge.
