Although Womens series had been won the week before 2nd and 3rd places were very much up for grabs

The famous Belle Vue ground of Wakefield Trinity hosted the final round of this years Inter Services Series. Despite the ongoing renovation of the stadium the actual playing surface was in immaculate condition after a long season of matches. All six teams were grateful to the Trinity ground staff for preparing such an excellent pitch helping to make the days events a great spectacle.

Despite going behind early in the first half the RN Women kept their heads and were unlucky to have a Jodie Mills try chalked off for a forward pass. The RAF scored two further try’s in the half to give them some breathing space against a resilient RN side who had their chances but the final break did not happen so, at halftime, it was 14:00 to the RAF. This resilience was highlighted when after some good pressure from the Wrenegades Caitlin Render took the ball at dummy half and scooted trough the RAF defence for the score, Lauren Watson converted the try and the RN were back in the game, 14:6. The Wrenegades scored next, Jodie Mills finished off another great move for her side touching down to the right of the posts closing the gap to just 4 points and it was game on 14:10. Shortly after RAF eased back into a two score lead with a try for Hannah South 18:10 and this thoroughly entertaining second half swung back to the RAF. The Wrenegades were not beaten and came close on a couple of occasions but could not make the last tackle count. However the RN were rewarded for a huge effort in attack, influential half back Olivia Critchley-Peddle put a deft kick toward the corner which was gathered in spectacular fashion by full back Jasmine Abel who touched down cleanly for the score 18:14. A penalty for an adjudged high tackle earned the RAF another 2 points as the game went into the last few minutes 20:14, still game on!. The RAF however did have the last word and with almost the last play of the game Alice Fisher crossed for a try which was converted to give a final score of 26:14 which somewhat flattered the RAF after a massive effort by the Wrenegades in the second half.
Great performances all round especially by Olivia Critchley-Peddle who bossed the midfield for the RN and skipper Sian McLaughlin who kept her team motivated to put on a great second half performance. Post match the Wrenegades said goodbye to stand off Emma Swinton who has (finally) retired from Rugby League. ‘Swinners’ has the honour of not only being one of the original 2008 Wrenegades but she was the first ever RN try scorer in the Womens IS against – yes you guessed it the RAF. We also said goodbye to Wrenegades Team Manager CJ Kane who is leaving the post, hopefully temporarily, after 7 years both as player and team Manager. Good luck to both and thank you for your contribution to the Wrenegades cause.
