Army Ladies v RN Ladies (The Wrenegades)

Despite the score line Wrenegades Coach Darren West was happy with his charges performance especially in the first half when for long periods of the game the RN Ladies were a match for their Army counterparts. Hampered by the unavailability of several key players notably Loose forward Fiesha Green and Lou Clarke the RN ladies gave a great display in very hot conditions. Played this year as the curtain raiser for the Seniors match and with the crowd beginning to build the Ladies from both sides put on great show with the Army overcoming stern first half resistance from the RN to take the game away from the Wrenegades in the second half. The Army broke the deadlock after 10 minutes when Amy Robinson crossed to score the first of her record haul of points for the match, converting her own try the Army were ahead by 6. The honour of posting the RN Ladies first ever points against the Army fell to Scrum half and Captain Zoe Waring bringing the score to 6-4. Sterling defence and much more determined go forward by the RN kept the Army on their toes especially with Sam Alderson turning the Army with some great kicks out of hand. The First half progressed with the Army scoring a further two converted try’s before the RN crossed again, this time Emma Swinton crossed on the RN right. Again the conversion was just wide but the RN Ladies had closed the gap again to 10 o[points. A final score for the Army just before the break increased their lead again with the halftime score at 22:10.

Despite great work throughout the team the RN Ladies could not stem the tide of Army attacks in the second half and were unable to post any further scores in the match. Amy Robinson scored a personal haul of 50 points in the match including a couple of try’s a record which is unlikely to be beaten certainly in IS History. As for the RN lots of good work from 1 to 17 has provided a good platform and lots of encouragement for next week’s home fixture against the RAF at Burnaby road.

RN Scorers :- T Waring, Swinton.
