Due to the refurbishment of the Salford 3G pitch the academy fixture was played at the Moat Hall home of Eccles ARLFC and big thanks to the club for opening up early and hosting the fixture.
Boasting 4 members of the GBAF Associations cup squad it was always going to be a big ask for the RN Academy however it was only in the second half that the Army could cut loose. The first half was pretty with the soldiers only ahead by 12:0 at the break. The RN side came close to scoring on several occasions however trys for Dale Walters and Chris Morew both converted by Ben Rowan gave the Army the lead at the break.
Almost immediately from the restart the Army were in again, a break from inside his own half by Ben Gibson saw the second rower go almost 60 metres to score under the posts giving Rowan the easiest of conversions to push out the score to 18-0. From that point onwards despite their best efforts the RN could not contain the Army who scored a further 28 points with just a consolation converted try to show for their efforts.
This result is the best possible start for the Army Academy going into next Saturdays final match against the RAF.
