For the third time in four years the Royal Navy took the Inter Service Rugby League title after a dramatic final match between the Army and the RAF

By virtue of a huge points difference achieved in the first two rounds of the competition the Royal Navy players could only sit and wait for the outcome of the closing fixture of this year’s series. Despite stealing the game with a last minute converted try the RAF were well short of the points required to overhaul the RN so the trophy once again returned to Portsmouth.
On return to the City players and backroom staff from RNRL attended a presentation onboard HMS Victory to receive the trophy from Second Sea Lord Vice Admiral Jonathan Woodcock OBE. Following the presentation Vice Admiral Woodcock tweeted ‘huge thrill to celebrate with Royal Navy Rugby League on winning the Inter Services, a brilliant achievement BZ #ohthathurt.
In the other competitions that make up the Inter Services Rugby League series the RN Women ‘the Wrenegades’ return to the full 13 a-side format and pushed the Army and RAF all the way with the ever strong Army Womens team taking the trophy. Similar results for the Men’s Academy side saw them finish behind the RAF and series winners the Army.
Whilst the playing season is now finished Royal Navy RL has a high profile event in Manchester representing UK Armed Forces at the Super League Grand Final on Saturday evening. Three members of the association will provide the Trophy Bearing party for the finale to the Super League season as Leeds Rhinos take on Castleford Tigers at Old Trafford on Saturday evening. PO Air Engineer and RNRL Skipper Ben Taylor will be accompanied by Leading Seaman Sam Alderson skipper of the RN Womens team and Portsmouth based Leading Engineering Technician Wata Robanakadavu coach of the RN Academy side.
