For the 9th successive year Warrington based Crosfields ARLFC will host their Armed Forces Day RL spectacular on 30 June 2018

This daylong event features three top class matches culminating in the Tom Sephton Memorial Trophy fixture between the home side Crosfields and Army Senior XIII.

Tom Sephton was a Crosfields player through the age groups from 2000 until joining the Army in 2008 age 18. Following completion of basic training Tom joined the Mortar Troop in his local Regiment, The Mercian’s in January 2009. Sadly Toms Army career was cut tragically short when in July 2010, whilst on operations in Afghanistan he was caught in the blast from an IED and sadly succumbed to his injuries a few days later after being repatriated to the UK. Such is the regard that Tom is held by the club that his teammates from 2008 came up with the idea of the Memorial Trophy. One of Tom’s teammates Jack Smith also joined the Armed Forces in the same year choosing the Royal Marines as a career. Barely a month after Toms passing Jack suffered a severe bullet wound from a Taliban sniper and was returned to UK. Two years later it and following his release from the RM Jack attended a RL Referees course and after qualifying made his debut as a Super League referee in May 2016.

The ongoing commitment to this event by countless people in the Crosfields area and beyond exemplifies what Community Rugby League is all about and deserves everyone’s support. This year once again a team from RMRL will feature in the opening game against the Army Academy, the chance to witness Royal come up against Percy on a Rugby Field should be enough to get the fans flooding in early doors

The Rugby fixtures are only part of the day, the following text is from the Organising committee and highlights the day’s events.

Get the date into your diary now, Saturday 30th June … it’s going to be the biggest and best FREE day out yet! With NO clashes with Super League fixtures this year so we’re expecting a bumper crowd … where better to get another FREE Rugby fix and hold a BOOTNECK REUNION?
The rugby… THREE amazing back to back Armed Forces games!!!
Game 1 at 11:30 gets the senior rugby off to a BANG and sees a rematch from 2017 as the Royal Marines Rugby League once again go into battle against the 'Young Guns' of the Army Rugby League Academy. The ‘Bootnecks’ narrowly took the spoils last year and took the honour of lifting the 'Birdsall Bowl'. The Army RL Academy team are still smarting at the loss … their only one of the season! This game promises to be an absolute belter, hard fast and aggressive rugby league!
Kicking off at 1:30 Game 2 is a real favourite of many. We are so VERY, VERY pleased to announce that the local Infantry Rugby League derby is back! The ‘Coleridge Cup’ clash of the titans between the Mercian Regiment and Duke of Lancaster’s Regiment returns, the two Regiments that recruit their soldiers from Warrington go head to head once more. A year of operational commitments prevented the Regiments from meeting last year leaving two years of immense pent up rivalry about to explode! It’s a game of epic proportions, mate against mate with Regimental pride at stake and one of the most bone crunching games that you’ll see all year, don’t miss this!
Game 3 and the MAIN EVENT of the 'Sephton 'Trophy Festival. Kicking off at 3:30 The Crosfields ARLFC Select XIII will once again take on the might of the Army Rugby League Senior XIII! Last year saw Crosfields score in the dying seconds of the game to pip the Army … by just 2 points! End to end spectacular Rugby League, the players putting their body on the line for their mates time and time again. A stunning display of a will to win that has been instilled in them over generations ... and the Army side isn’t bad either! Join us on Armed Forces Day for the very best in Armed Forces Rugby.
But there’s so much more than ‘just’ the rugby on display.
The fantastic FREE festival is a wonderful day out with FREE gifts and activities for the kids, Inflatable Obstacle Courses, Rifle ranges, Birds of Prey, Fairground rides and stalls, Face painting, even LazerQuest and Zorbs!
